METHOD

The YIES method is based on modern academic research and allows  the development of knowledge through personal experiences. It is an environment where students develop critical thinking and personal skills and where different learning styles are recognized and valued. Students will be able to think creatively and be independent when solving problems.

We develop :

  • SKILLS & CAPABILITIES
  • KNOWLEDGE
  • ATTITUDES

through a concept driven curriculum.

We say YIES to

a multilingual blended curriculum

Why concept based learning?

Concept driven teaching and learning offers an alternative to the traditional programme because it creates a link between the students’ interests and fundamental skills that are transferable across disciplines. The exploration of concepts helps students to understand cross-disciplinary ideas and forms the essential core of learning.

Thinking conceptually

When children are required to think about concepts they are more motivated because their level of understanding and acquisition of ideas is much greater.

Concept based learning

Experience encourages active learning

  • Active learning is the key to success

  • We talk about active learning when children are encouraged to learn and are interested in discovering new things for themselves.
  • Active learning leads children to make real choices and decisions.
  • It is very satisfying for children to follow their interests and find answers to their own questions.
  • Active learning means that there are many ways to investigate and solve a problem

At Yies we lay the foundation for the students’ life project so that children have an active role in their learning process. They develop talents and curiosity, and the ability to manage difficulties and have self-confidence. Multilingual and multicultural education enhances diversity, which leads to personal success in school.

The YiES programme is also in line with the key competences promoted by the European Parliament which include:

  • communication in mother tongue
  • mathematical and scientific skills
  • language skills
  • digital competence
  • learning to learn
  • social and civic competences
  • a sense of initiative and entrepreneurship
  • cultural awareness and expression (music, art, drama)

At YiES school, different subjects are used to develop different capabilities. The goal is not just to develop a competent child, but a wise child who is independent and aware. The use of age appropriate tools enhances the experience of gaining knowledge, making it fun and maximising learning. DIVERSITY

This is a complex concept, but fundamental for contemporary society. The management of diversity will be approached from different perspectives: gender, race, social stereotypes, religion, physical and intellectual ability, status and social condition with particular reference to the status of refugees. The concept is “diversity, complexity and wealth.” The aim of the approach is mental inclusion: going behind barriers and prejudices. Helping children to understand that what is different is to be understood and not rejected. Helping children develop empathy and use their natural curiosity to ask questions, seek answers, to put themselves in someone else’s shoes, developing a sense of solidarity with, and support for others.

At Yieschool any child is welcome, with no distinction of race, religion, gender, ability.

Equal Opportunities for Specific Learning Disorders (Sld)

YIES has an open entry policy, accepting students of all abilities and supporting the needs of each student. Taking care of each student creates the right environment to educate children about diversity and develop a caring attitude, empathy and sensitivity to others’ needs. The YIES educational project aims to make the most of everyone’s potential. Dealing with disability and diversity is an essential prerequisite for creating the educational concepts of inclusion and integration.

YIES cares about the needs of each individual child.

They are followed individually with care and attention to enable balanced growth and learning. At YIES, Individualised Education Plans are written for students with specific learning needs to help them achieve in each discipline. A psychologist will also be available to ensure the wellbeing of all students.

Homework

Books in both languages, English and Italian, will be suggested to the children as tools to improve their knowledge and also to have fun. However, to consolidate more complex concepts or to address specific questions, students will be assigned tasks to be performed at home
